My name is Mark Dickens and I’ve been working on a building a Van’s Aircraft RV-8 since late 1999. Yes, it’s taking a long time, but as the old adage goes, “life is what happens when you’re making other plans”…or “other planes” in my case! We moved from our home in Germantown, Tennessee to Denver, Colorado in late 2000 to take a new job. That job didn’t work out and we returned to Tennessee in 2002, whereupon I decided to start my own business. Anyone who’s done that knows that all of your resources: time, money and attention, are required to make it work. And, of course, I elected to do this right after 9/11 while the economy was just beginning to tank. What a positive environment to start a business!
Of course, the RV-8 project was put on hold and ultimately, I didn’t touch the project for almost 10 years. Fortunately, my business is now a success, and I have both the time and money to take the project forward. This blog will chronicle my efforts from the summer of 2012 forward.
